Rust, dents and chips

What is wear, and what is a claim

Weber's warranty: surface rust, dents and scratches are normal wear and tear; rust-through or burn-through of the bowl or lid within 10 years is a defect.

  1. Wash off salt, chlorine and acid rain with warm soapy water, rinse and dry (the manual).
  2. Look for rust spots on the lid and bowl, and at the bowl rim where the hook sits and the lid lip where it touches a leg (owner reports). Surface rust is normal wear.
  3. Look for a hole rusted or burned right through. That is a warranty claim.
  4. Change where you bank the coals each cook, so one patch of enamel does not take all the heat (Weber collector, on Weber's blog). Without rails they sit against the bowl wall.
  5. Keep it covered and dry between cooks.
