Optional: fit a Slide-Aside or charcoal rails

Two add-ons Weber sells separately

Neither comes in the box. The Slide-Aside gives the lid a holder, as on a Master-Touch; the rails hold the coals at the sides for indirect cooking.

1. For a lid holder, buy the Slide-Aside lid holder 8411 (£42.49 UK; $37.99 US, unavailable on 11 Oct 2026). Weber: it clips on to the side of 18 in and 22 in kettles.
2. Fit it as its own instructions show: they are not online, so this guide gives no steps.
3. For charcoal rails (Weber 65938, sold separately), lift out the cooking grate.
4. Hook the rails onto the charcoal grate on opposite sides of the bowl, before you light the fuel (the manual).
5. Fill behind them with fuel, away from the bowl handle and not under the thermometer or lid damper (the manual).
6. Refit the cooking grate with its hinged flaps over the coals.
