Check and tighten the handles and the lid hook
Snug, not tight
The manual: "Tighten hardware until it is secure. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN HARDWARE." No power drill.
- With the kettle cold, wiggle the lid handle.
- If it moves, lay the lid upside down on a soft surface, hold the handle and snug the 2 nuts inside the lid with the Weber plastic tool. Stop as soon as it is firm.
- Check the heat shield sits square under the grip.
- Tighten the bowl handle's 1 Phillips screw (US: 2 handles, a screw each).
- Look at the lid hook inside the lid: firm on the lid, not bent, no sharp edge.
- Push on each leg: its spring clip button should show through the hole. Check an R-clip goes through each axle end (US: the push-on hub caps are tight).
Owners report the lid handle loosening now and then and simply re-tighten it; some add a second nut where the thread allows (Weber Kettle Club, owner reports).
