Brush the carbon flakes out of the lid

The "peeling paint" is carbon

The manual: the "paint-like" flakes inside the lid are grease and smoke that have turned to carbon. They are not paint and not failing enamel.

  1. Let the kettle cool until it is warm, not hot.
  2. Lift the lid off and lay it upside down on a soft surface, so you can reach inside it. Hung on its hook, its inside faces the bowl (this guide's choice).
  3. Brush the flakes off the inside of the lid with a stainless-steel bristle brush, working round the lid hook.
  4. Tip the loose flakes into the bin, sweep any that fell in the kettle with the One-Touch and empty the catcher.
  5. To slow the build-up, wipe the inside of the lid with a paper towel after each cook while it is still warm (the manual).
