Black flakes like peeling paint inside the lid

Normal. The manual: grease and smoke turn to carbon on the inside of the lid. Brush it off with a stainless-steel bristle brush and wipe the warm lid with a paper towel after cooks. It is not the enamel failing and not a warranty fault.
