Vents and the One-Touch settings

The lid damper and the bowl vents

More air, more heat. The manual and Weber UK's temperature guide.

  1. Set the One-Touch handle to open (the grill-and-flame mark) for most cooks.
  2. Read the 4 marks on the ring: closed (solid oval), smoke (wavy lines), open (grill and flame), clean (arrow and bucket: sweep back and forth).
  3. Leave the bowl vents open and use the lid damper for most changes (Weber UK).
  4. Set the lid damper: fully open 230 to 290 °C; about half 175 to 230 °C; about a quarter 120 to 175 °C; an eighth to a quarter 95 to 150 °C.
  5. Make 1 small change, then wait about 5 minutes.
  6. For indirect cooks, turn the lid so the damper sits opposite the coals and the thermometer is not above them.
