Brush the carbon flakes out of the lid

The "peeling paint" is carbon

The manual: the "paint-like" flakes inside the lid are grease and smoke that have turned to carbon. They are not paint and not failing enamel.

  1. Let the kettle cool until it is warm, not hot.
  2. Slide the lid into the Tuck-Away so you can reach inside it.
  3. Brush the flakes off the inside of the lid with a stainless-steel bristle brush.
  4. Sweep the fallen flakes and ash out with the One-Touch and empty the catcher.
  5. To slow the build-up, wipe the inside of the lid with a paper towel after each cook while it is still warm (the manual).
