The gas leak test
Soapy water on every joint
Weber's leak check (the manual, US manual): after assembly, every time you fit a cylinder, after storage, after moving the grill (Weber UK), and once a year. Never use a flame to look for a leak.
- Work outdoors with no flames or smoking near, and turn every knob off.
- Mix 20 % washing-up liquid with 80 % water in a spray bottle, or use a leak-detector spray.
- Open the cylinder valve slowly (UK clip-on: lift its lever). Do not light the grill.
- Wet 3 joints: regulator to cylinder, hose to bulkhead, bulkhead to gas line. Growing bubbles mean a leak.
- Bubbles: turn the gas off. At the cylinder valve, return the cylinder. At the regulator, do not tighten it with gas on: contact Weber. At a fitting, tighten it with a spanner, gas off, and test again.
- No bubbles: gas off, then rinse the joints with water. Soap can corrode them.
