Brush the carbon out of the lid

The "peeling paint" is carbon

The manual: grease and smoke slowly turn to carbon inside the lid and can flake off like paint. They are not toxic, not paint, and not a defect.

  1. Let the grill cool until it is warm, not hot.
  2. Open the lid.
  3. Brush the carbon off the inside of the lid with a grill brush.
  4. To slow the build-up, wipe the inside of the lid with paper towel after each cook while it is warm.
  5. The flakes fall into the cookbox: they go out with the next grease tray clean.
