Wheels and legs

Replace a wheel or a leg

Traeger support, "How to Replace Wheels", and the assembly guide.

  1. Make sure the grill is cold and unplugged with the hopper empty, and lift it with 2 people.
  2. Wheel: remove the axle bolt and washers, fit the new wheel (KIT0297, the same as the Pro 575's) with them, and tighten.
  3. Leg: each is held by 2 button-head bolts (5/16"-18) with washers, a spring washer and a nut, as in assembly. Legs are numbered by corner: caster legs KIT0389 front left and KIT0388 rear left (each with its caster), KIT0417 front right, KIT0418 rear right; hardware set HDW333.

Check and replace a caster

Traeger support, "How to Replace Wheels on a Pellet Grill". The Pro 780's two casters (KIT0792) push into the bottoms of the caster legs; there is no bolt.

  1. With the grill cold, turn each caster by hand: it should swivel and roll freely. Wipe off grease and grit. Traeger gives no lubrication instructions.
  2. With a helper, lay the grill on its back on a blanket (cold, unplugged, hopper empty).
  3. Lever the old caster out of the leg with a screwdriver. Traeger: "apply a high amount of pressure to pop the wheel out".
  4. Push the new caster's stem straight into the leg until it seats.
  5. Stand the grill up with your helper, and check both casters swivel and roll.
