Hot rod and firepot
Get the firepot out
Main power switch off, cord unplugged, grill cold. The manual: "Disconnect the power cord before servicing the grill." Use a hand screwdriver, not a power drill: Traeger support says power tools strip these screws.
Traeger support, "Hot Rod & Firepot Replacement Instructions for D2 WiFIRE Grills". Check first with the self test (Grill I/O, igniter): if the hot rod does not heat, replace it. Hot rod KIT0255; firepot and hot rod together KIT0383 (both "Pro 575 or Pro 780" on Traeger's store).
- Unplug and let it cool, then lift out the grates, drip tray and heat baffle.
- Vacuum the firepot.
- Remove the 4 fixings holding the firepot to the auger tube.
- Push the firepot away from the hopper, turn it 45° and lift it to reach the wires.
- Unplug the hot rod's connector, cutting cable ties if needed.
New hot rod, firepot back
Traeger support, continued. D2 hot rods work on both 120 V and 230 V grills.
- Loosen the set screw and pull out the old hot rod.
- Push in the new one until 3 to 6 mm (1/8 to 1/4 in) shows inside the firepot.
- Tighten the set screw; do not over-tighten it.
- Plug the hot rod into the harness, then refit the firepot with its 4 fixings.
- Open the hopper access panel and pull the hot rod wire taut.
- Refit the baffle, tray and grates, light it to test, then season it if you changed the firepot.
