Get into the hopper

The hopper access panel

Main power switch off, cord unplugged, grill cold. The manual: "Disconnect the power cord before servicing the grill." Use a hand screwdriver, not a power drill: Traeger support says power tools strip these screws.

Traeger support's D2 repair articles. Traeger: the grills are "designed to be modular for simple repair by regular users", but contact Traeger support before you buy parts, and order through them if the part is under warranty.

  1. Switch off, unplug, and let the grill cool.
  2. Empty the hopper.
  3. Undo the Phillips screws holding the access panel under the hopper.
  4. Lower the panel away to reach the fan, auger motor, power brick and wiring.
  5. Cut the cable ties only where the job needs it, and have new ones ready to refit.

Take the controller off and back on

Traeger support's controller and repair articles.

  1. Remove the 4 Phillips screws at the corners of the controller.
  2. Unplug the keyed plugs behind it. A photo first makes refitting easier (our suggestion).
  3. To refit, push each plug back into its own socket. The grill temperature sensor's yellow plug goes + to +.
  4. Refit the 4 screws with a hand screwdriver.
  5. Tie the wires away from the fan blades and refit the access panel.
