Auger jam and auger motor
Clear a jam with Clear Auger
The manual and Traeger support. A jam is almost always wet or swollen pellets.
- Let the grill cool completely: "Always allow grill to cool completely before using the Clear Auger function" (the manual).
- Empty the swollen pellets and sawdust from the hopper.
- Clean out the firepot.
- Switch on and choose MENU > Auger > Clear Auger.
- Vacuum out what it pushes into the firepot, and let the auger tube dry.
- Refill with dry pellets, run Prime Auger, refit the parts and light it.
Take the auger out, or change the motor
Main power switch off, cord unplugged, grill cold. The manual: "Disconnect the power cord before servicing the grill." Use a hand screwdriver, not a power drill: Traeger support says power tools strip these screws.
Traeger support, "Auger & Auger Motor Replacement Instructions for D2 WiFIRE Grills" (Pro 575 section). Auger KIT0426; motor KIT0577.
- Empty the hopper, open the access panel, and unplug the controller.
- Remove the 4 hopper housing screws (2 front, 2 back) and lift the housing off with a helper.
- Unplug the auger motor and remove its 4 Phillips screws.
- Remove the bushing screw, pull the auger out, and clean out the tube.
- To refit, line the groove in the bushing up with the bushing screw, which also holds the green and yellow earth wire. Do not over-tighten it, or the auger binds.
- Reassemble in reverse order and run Prime Auger.
If the square gasket between the hopper and barrel crumbles, replace it (KIT0802).
