Shut it down: the shut-down cycle
The 10-minute shut-down cycle
Start it with the lid closed, and after every cook turn the dial to SHUT DOWN CYCLE and let it finish (about 10 minutes) before you switch off or unplug (the manual).
The manual, pages 14 and 21: always run the shut-down cycle after a cook.
- Close the lid.
- Turn the dial to SMOKE and let the grill drop below 107 °C (225 °F). Traeger support's tip: this stops smoke coming back out of the hopper at shut-down, which is more common on these grills.
- Turn the dial to SHUT DOWN CYCLE.
- Leave it. The fan runs about 10 minutes (the manual; 10 to 15 says Traeger support) to burn the pellets left in the firepot, then the controller turns off and the fan stops.
- Only then switch off at the rocker, and unplug if you want to.
- Cover it only when it is cool.
