Power cord and earth wires

Replace the power cord, check the earth wires

Power switch off, cord unplugged, grill cold. The manual: "Disconnect the power cord before servicing the grill." Use hand tools, not a power drill (Traeger support).

Traeger support, "Power Cord" and "Grounding Wires" articles. The cord is fixed to the grill; the US cord is KIT0089 (120 V). The manual: a damaged cord must be replaced with Traeger's special cord assembly.

  1. Switch off, unplug the grill and remove the bottom grate under the hopper (shown off here).
  2. Remove the 2 controller screws, turn the controller edge-on and push it back through its opening into the hopper (Traeger support: "push the controller back into the slot and in the hopper").
  3. Remove the 4 hopper screws (2 front, 2 back) and lift the hopper off. The controller stays on its wires.
  4. Unplug the cord's black and white plug and undo its earth screw (an 8-32 screw; Traeger names an "8/32 hex socket screwdriver"). Free the old cord with pliers where it passes through the frame and pull it out.
  5. Fit the new cord the same way, its earth screw tight on bare metal.
  6. Check every earth wire, including the green and green-and-yellow ones on the back of the auger motor, is tight metal to metal. Refit the hopper, draw the controller back out and screw it on, then refit the bottom grate.
