Get into the hopper
The bottom grate under the hopper
Power switch off, cord unplugged, grill cold. The manual: "Disconnect the power cord before servicing the grill." Use hand tools, not a power drill (Traeger support).
Traeger support's articles for non-connected (AC) grills. Traeger: the grills are "designed to be modular for simple repair by regular users", but contact Traeger support before you buy parts, and order through them if the part is under warranty.
- Switch off, unplug, and let the grill cool.
- Empty the hopper.
- Undo the 4 Phillips screws holding the bottom grate under the hopper.
- Lower the grate away to reach the fan, the auger motor and the wiring.
- Find the 4 plug pairs: red and white to the auger motor, orange and white to the fan, purple and white to the hot rod, black and white to the power cord. Cut cable ties only where the job needs it, and have new ones ready.
Take the controller off and back on
Traeger support, "How to Replace the Controller on Non-Connected Grills".
- Remove the 2 Phillips screws at the top and bottom of the controller plate.
- Ease the controller forward on its wires.
- Look at its back: the fuse holder at the lower right (with a spare usually tied on), the green terminal block with the RTD's 2 white wires, and a red power light. A photo first makes refitting easier (our suggestion).
- Push it back and refit the 2 screws with a hand screwdriver.
- Tie the wires away from the fan blades and refit the bottom grate.
