Unbox and set it up

Choose where it stands

Outdoors only. The manual: never in a building, garage or any enclosed area, and never on or under a balcony or deck. Burning gas makes carbon monoxide, which you cannot see or smell.

  1. Use it outdoors only: never in a building, garage, tent, boat or vehicle, and never on or under a balcony or deck (the manual).
  2. Keep 1 m (3 ft) clear at the sides and back, and 3 m (10 ft) clear overhead, away from anything that burns.
  3. Stand it on a wood, stone or stainless steel table that holds 30 kg (66 lb); never glass, plastic or a tablecloth (Essentials Guide; help centre).
  4. Pick a spot sheltered from the wind, and keep the mouth turned away from it.
  5. Stand the cylinder upright, at least 635 mm (25 in) from the oven, and never under it (the manual).
  6. Keep children and pets away, and never leave it lit and unattended (the manual).

Legs out, stone in, hose away

The manual's set-up, in order.

  1. Check every part is there and undamaged. If not, do not assemble it: contact Ooni (the manual).
  2. Unfold the 3 legs and stand the oven on its feet.
  3. Slide the stone baking board in, flat on the floor, with its wide lip at the mouth.
  4. Connect the regulator and hose. In some regions the hose comes fitted.
  5. Lead the hose away from the oven, never under it, and keep it off the hot body (the manual).
  6. Do the leak test before you light it for the first time.
