A roar is the flame burning back inside the burner tube (flashback). The manual and the Essentials Guide: turn the knob off, wait 5 minutes, and relight slowly. Causes: lighting too fast, a blocked burner tube, or low tank pressure. Clean the burner and its tubes, and try a new tank.
