Light it and turn it off

Light it: push, turn slowly, hold 5 seconds

Outdoors only. The manual: never in a building, garage or any enclosed area, and never on or under a balcony or deck. Burning gas makes carbon monoxide, which you cannot see or smell.

  1. Keep everyone 1 m (3 ft) from the mouth, and do not look into it while you light it (help centre).
  2. Open the gas slowly at the cylinder.
  3. Push the knob in and turn it slowly anticlockwise from 12 o'clock towards 9, taking at least 3 seconds (the help centre says about 5) so gas reaches the burner (Essentials Guide).
  4. It clicks just past 9 o'clock and the burner lights.
  5. Keep the knob pressed in for 5 seconds after it lights, then let go: the flame safety device needs that long to warm up.
  6. No flame within 5 seconds: turn the knob off, wait 5 minutes, and try again (the manual).

Max is the line at 9 o'clock; Min is 6 o'clock.

Light it with a match

Outdoors only. The manual: never in a building, garage or any enclosed area, and never on or under a balcony or deck. Burning gas makes carbon monoxide, which you cannot see or smell.

The manual and the help centre, with the matchstick holder that comes in the box.

  1. Turn the knob off and wait 5 minutes for any gas to clear.
  2. Put on gloves. Put a match in the matchstick holder and light it.
  3. Hold it in through the mouth, over the burner at the left of the oven.
  4. Push the knob in and turn it: the burner should light within seconds.
  5. Take the holder out, and keep the knob pressed in for 5 seconds in all.
  6. Then clean the piezo so the spark works next time.

Turn it off, and if the flame goes out

The Essentials Guide.

  1. Turn the knob fully clockwise to off (line at 12 o'clock).
  2. Turn the cylinder off (UK: regulator switch back down, level).
  3. Disconnect the regulator from the cylinder after every use.
  4. Leave the oven at least 1.5 hours to cool before you move, clean or cover it.
  5. If the flame goes out while cooking: turn the gas off at the cylinder, disconnect, and wait 5 minutes before you relight.
  6. Relight as usual, but hold the knob in for 20 seconds.
