Leak test with soapy water

The soapy-water leak test

When: before each use (the manual), and always on first use, after a cylinder change, after storage and after changing any gas part (help centre). Never look for a leak with a flame.

  1. Work outdoors with no flames or smoking nearby, and turn the knob off.
  2. Mix 1 part washing-up liquid to 1 part water in a spray bottle, or use a leak-detector spray (the manual).
  3. Open the cylinder valve slowly (UK: lift the regulator's switch). Do not light the oven. Opening fast can trip a US regulator's safety cut-off (Essentials Guide).
  4. Spray every joint: cylinder to regulator, regulator to hose, hose to gas terminal, and along the hose.
  5. Watch for growing bubbles. If you see any, turn the gas off, tighten the joint and test again.
  6. Still bubbling: turn the gas off and do not use the oven until it is fixed. Contact Ooni (the manual).
