A long yellow, sooty flame

The Essentials Guide's flame guide: on the 28, 37 and 50 mbar propane ovens, the ideal flame is blue with yellow tips. A long, sooty yellow flame means butane is being used: use propane only. A flame that is too low: check the tank. Flame colour is not always linked to temperature, and wind changes it. Soot on the roof wipes off with dry paper towel when cold.
