Choose where it stands

Outdoors only. The manuals: never in a building, garage or any enclosed area, never on or under a balcony or deck, and never on a boat or in a vehicle. Burning gas makes carbon monoxide, which you cannot see or smell.

  1. Use it outdoors only, somewhere well ventilated (the manuals).
  2. Keep 1 m (3 ft) clear all round, and 3 m (10 ft) from buildings and from any roof or cover overhead.
  3. Stand it on a wood, stone or stainless steel table that holds 15 kg (30 lb); never glass, plastic or a tablecloth (Essentials Guide; the manual).
  4. Pick a spot sheltered from the wind, with the mouth turned away from it (Essentials Guide; the manual).
  5. Stand the cylinder upright, at least 635 mm (25 in) from the oven (1 m in Australia), and never under it.
  6. Keep children and pets away, and never leave it lit and unattended (the manuals).

Legs out, stone in, hose away

The manual's set-up, in order.

  1. Check the oven and the stone are there and undamaged. If not, do not assemble it: contact Ooni (the manual).
  2. Unfold the 3 legs fully and stand the oven on its feet (Essentials Guide: "Ensure the legs of the oven are fully unfolded before use").
  3. Slide the stone baking board in through the mouth, flat on the floor of the oven.
  4. Connect the hose and regulator. In some regions the hose comes fitted.
  5. Lead the hose out to the right, away from the oven, never under it (Essentials Guide).
  6. Do the leak test before you light it for the first time.
