Safety
Carbon monoxide, clearances and gas
- Outdoors only (the manuals): never in a building, garage or enclosed area; never on or under a balcony or deck; never on a boat or in a vehicle; not a heater. Use it somewhere well ventilated: burning gas makes carbon monoxide.
- Clearances: 1 m (3 ft) all round and 3 m (10 ft) from buildings and overhead cover. The manuals give smaller figures in places (610 mm sides in Europe; 915 mm back in North America); this guide uses the largest, because they meet every manual at once.
- Gas: propane up to 13 kg, or a 1 lb camping tank with the right adaptor; cylinder upright, at least 635 mm (25 in) away (1 m in Australia), never under the oven; regulators hand-tight only; soapy-water leak test before each use, never a flame; hose led away from the oven, never under it.
- Lighting: face and hands as far away as you can; do not look into the mouth.
- Smell gas: gas off, flames out, keep away; call the gas supplier or fire service if it stays.
