Leak test with soapy water
The soapy-water leak test
When: before each use (the manuals; Essentials Guide), and always after a cylinder change, after storage and after changing any gas part. Never look for a leak with a flame, and do not smoke.
- Work outdoors with no flames nearby, and turn the knob off.
- Mix 1 part liquid detergent to 1 part water, in a spray bottle or on a brush or rag (the manual), or use a leak-detector spray.
- Open the cylinder valve slowly (UK: lift the regulator's switch). Do not light the oven. Opening a US tank fast can trip the regulator's safety cut-off (Essentials Guide).
- Wet every joint: cylinder to regulator, regulator to hose, hose to barb, barb to terminal (UK), or the hose nut (US), and along the hose.
- Watch for growing bubbles. If you see any, turn the gas off, tighten the joint and test again.
- Still bubbling: turn the gas off and do not use the oven. Contact Ooni (the manual): "Never cook with a product that has failed a leak test" (Essentials Guide).
