Connect the gas

UK and Europe: barb and hose at the oven

The Europe and UK manual, steps 3a and 3b. Depending on the region, the hose comes fitted: if it does, start at step 5 and check the clip.

  1. Turn the knob off (white line at 12 o'clock).
  2. Screw the 8 mm barb onto the gas terminal, on the right at the back, by hand (the manual, step 3b i).
  3. Snug it with a spanner that fits its nut. Ooni gives no size: try the spanner for fit first.
  4. Push the hose fully onto the barb (the manual, step 3b ii).
  5. Tighten the hose clip with a screwdriver until snug.
  6. Lead the hose out to the right, away from the oven and never under it (Essentials Guide).

UK and Europe: regulator on the cylinder

The Europe and UK manual. EU ovens may come without a regulator and hose: Ooni sells one for each country's pressure.

  1. Use propane in a cylinder of up to 13 kg, with a collar round its valve, standing upright (the manual; help centre).
  2. Check the knob and the cylinder valve are off.
  3. Look over the hose. Any cut, wear or rubbing means replace it before use (the manual).
  4. Patio (clip-on) regulator: set the black switch level, press the button below it, and press the regulator onto the cylinder valve until it locks (the manual).
  5. Pull up gently to check it holds. Hands only.
  6. Do the leak test before you light it.

POL regulators, used on red UK propane cylinders: the thread is anticlockwise. With the cylinder off, screw it into the valve by hand as far as it goes (the manual). See fit a POL regulator.

US and Canada: QCC1 regulator

The North America manual.

  1. Close the tank valve (clockwise until it stops) and turn the knob off.
  2. Stand the tank upright, at least 635 mm (25 in) from the oven and never under it: up to 13 kg (30 lb), with an overfill protection device (the manual; help centre).
  3. The hose comes fitted to the gas terminal on the right at the back (a 5/8 in thread with a 19 mm nut). Check it is on and has not worked loose.
  4. Look over the tank valve, the regulator and the hose. Clear any debris; a damaged hose must be replaced.
  5. Turn the QCC1 coupling nut clockwise onto the tank valve, by hand until it stops. The manual: "Use of a wrench could damage the quick coupling nut".
  6. Open the tank valve slowly and do the leak test.
