Clean the burner

Spiders and blockages: from inside the oven

The manual: "Spiders and insects can nest inside the burner of the appliance and disrupt gas flow. Inspect the burner at least once a year." The rest is from the Essentials Guide and the help centre (all Ooni gas ovens).

  1. Look at the burner across the back at least once a year for webs, nests and food.
  2. Let the oven go cold, turn the gas off, detach the regulator and put on gloves.
  3. Blast compressed air over the burner from inside the oven, through the mouth.
  4. Every 3 months, wipe the burner tube with a wire brush to remove food debris (Essentials Guide). The manual says a soft wire brush for the burner holes.
  5. Reconnect, do the leak test, and run it for 30 minutes.

Through the gas terminal: inside the burner

The help centre ("My gas-powered Ooni oven has an uneven flame", all Ooni gas ovens).

  1. Let the oven go cold, turn the gas off, and take the hose off the gas terminal at the back (UK: loosen the clip and pull it off the barb; US: the 19 mm hose nut, anticlockwise).
  2. Push the knob in and hold it.
  3. Blast compressed air into the terminal where the hose attaches, so it blows through to the burner.
  4. Refit the hose and do the leak test.
  5. Run it for 30 minutes.
  6. Still uneven: try a full cylinder, then a spare regulator.
