Light the charcoal

The manual's method.

1. For low temperatures and long cooks, fill charcoal straight into the firebox, at most up to the joint between firebox and fire ring.
2. For medium and high heat, fill the basket to just below the smoking-rail opening, with no small pieces at the bottom. Fill one half of the divider for two zones.
3. Light it from the top with 1 or 2 natural firelighters.
4. Set the grid system back in and close the dome.
5. Open the draft door and the cap fully. The chimney effect heats it fast: "ready in 10 minutes" (Monolith).
6. Stay near and start closing down before you reach your target (next job).
