Oil the cast iron
Oil the cap and the cast iron
The manual and the 2019 FAQ.
- Leave the grease film that forms on the cast-iron cap after a few cooks. It protects the iron and stiffens the cap so it does not move by itself (2019 FAQ).
- Oil the charcoal grate thinly now and then (the manual).
- Oil a cast-iron grid or plancha thinly after brushing.
- If any cast iron rusts: wire-brush it, oil it and burn it in at about 250 °C (2019 FAQ for grids; this guide applies it to the cap by the same logic).
