Lift the lid off and on
Lift the lid off
The manual (quick-release hinge, Junior and ICON), with the ICON manual's English: "Open the lid and loosen the two wing nuts at the back of the grill on either side of the hinge."
- Let the grill go cold. Keep a hand on the cap: the manual says it sits only loosely pushed on.
- Open the lid fully, so the springs are relaxed. The ICON manual: "Do not remove the lid from the closed position."
- Turn the wing nuts on both sides of the hinge anticlockwise by hand until they are loose.
- Hold the lid by the handle and lift it straight up, out of the hinge, keeping your fingers away from the hinge.
- Lay it down slowly, gasket side down, on a safe, soft surface (the manual).
Monolith does not publish the lid's weight; it is heavy, so a helper is wise.
Put the lid back on
The manual gives only the way off; this is that method in reverse.
- With a helper, lift the lid by the handle and hold it fully open, at about 60°, over the hinge.
- Lower it so the pins on the lid's hinge arms drop into the open slots of the base half of the hinge.
- Turn both wing nuts clockwise and tighten them by hand. No tool.
- Close the lid slowly and check that it sits square on the base, with no gap at the gasket.
- Check the cap is on with its lettering to the front.
