The first fire

The quick start guide: "The grill does not have to be seasoned and can be used immediately after being set up."

1. Check that all screws on the grill and cart are tight, the band clamp screws and the hinge wing nuts included.
2. Know that the cast-iron charcoal grate leaves the factory with a protective coating that burns off during the first use.
3. Light the charcoal as for any cook.
4. Wait until any smell from the coating has cleared.
5. Then put food on the grill.

Monolith gives no temperature limit for the first fire. Its 2020 video "Kohlerost ausbrennen" shows a grate's coating being burnt off.
