Clean the grid, deflector and lift

The stainless grid and the deflector

The manual and the quick start guide.

  1. Brush the stainless grid while it is still hot.
  2. Lift it out with the grid lifter, in gloves.
  3. Wash it in the dishwasher if you like (the manual, for its stainless grids). Brown or blue heat tint is normal.
  4. Scrape the deflector stone with a brush or a hob scraper. Black stains soak in and are harmless.
  5. Wrap the stone in foil when you cook without a drip pan (the quick start guide).

Cast-iron grid and charcoal grate

For the optional cast-iron grid (201029), from the 2019 FAQ (Monolith's cast-iron advice predates the Pro 2.0 but the parts are the same); the charcoal grate from the manual.

  1. Brush a cast-iron grid while hot with a brass brush.
  2. Wipe it with a thin coat of high-smoke-point oil.
  3. Clean it with water only, never soap.
  4. If it rusts: wire-brush it, oil it and burn it in at about 250 °C.
  5. Brush the charcoal grate (201066-J) and oil it thinly now and then (the manual).
