Check and tighten the bands

Why and when, and the tools

The dome is heavy and held open by springs. The manual: "Do not underestimate the high weight of the lid." Never just let go of it when you close it, keep hands and tools out from between dome and base, and replace damaged springs at once. Dome, hinge and band work needs two people and gloves (the 2016 hinge sheet, written for older grills; the manual's safety page asks the same care).

The gasket under the bands shrinks with heat, so the bands loosen. The manual and the quick start guide: tighten the clamp screws before first use and regularly after. Each band has one hex-socket clamp screw through two lugs, with a nut behind. Monolith does not publish where on the band it sits: look round each band for it.

How tight: until the two lugs lean towards each other (2019 FAQ, "Drehmoment Spannringe"). Monolith gives no torque figure.

Tighten the bands

Method A of the 2016 hinge sheet (written for older grills; the Pro 2.0 bands use the same kind of clamp screw).

  1. Let the grill go cold.
  2. Check that the hinge nuts are snug.
  3. Open the dome fully and push it up until the hinge is fully open. Your helper holds it there.
  4. Hold the nut behind each clamp screw with a spanner, or it turns with the screw.
  5. Tighten the lower band's clamp screw until its lugs lean towards each other.
  6. Then tighten the upper band's the same way, and close the dome gently.
