Replace a hinge spring

Change a hinge spring

Kamado Joe gives no method for this. The springs are sold singly (KJ-SSS13) and two are fitted. This is our reading of how the hinge is built: look at yours first, and if in doubt ask Kamado Joe.

  1. With the grill cold and the dome closed, have a helper hold the dome down.
  2. Put on gloves and safety glasses: the spring is under load.
  3. Unhook one end of the old spring from its post with pliers, then the other.
  4. Hook the new spring onto one post, then stretch it onto the other with the pliers.
  5. Do the second spring the same way if it is weak too: one spring at a time.
  6. Open and close the dome to check it now stays up and closes evenly.
