Clean the grate and deflector

The grate, the deflector and the rack

From the 2024 manual, with the brushing from Kamado Joe's cleaning video (Classic).

  1. After the cook, open the dome. Above 175 °C (350 °F), lift the dome 5 to 8 cm for about 5 seconds before you open it fully, face and body clear.
  2. Lift the cooking grate with the grill gripper (the manual: it can be hot) and turn it over the fire to burn off.
  3. Brush it before the next cook, then wipe it with an oiled cloth.
  4. Flip the deflector dirty side down for the next cook: the manual says the fire cleans that side.
  5. Leave the accessory rack to the clean burn: Kamado Joe gives no other method.
