Check the thermometer

The boiling-water check

Kamado Joe Europe's dealer notes give the check (written for the Classic II; it suits any dial thermometer). The adjustment is the usual dial-thermometer method, not Kamado Joe's.

  1. Let the grill go cold.
  2. Take the thermometer out of the dome (see replace the thermometer).
  3. Put at least 5 cm of the stem in rolling boiling water for 30 seconds.
  4. Read the dial: it should show 100 °C (212 °F), a little less high up (about 98 °C at 600 m).
  5. If it is off, hold the nut behind the dial and turn the dial head to 100 °C.
  6. If it will not read true, or the dial turns too easily, replace it: KJ-T13.
