Carry it safely

The 2024 manual for steps 1 and 3 to 5; steps 2 and 6 are ours.

1. Let it cool below 45 °C (115 °F): never move it hot.
2. Take the inside parts out: they sit loose and can break.
3. Check the band and hinge nuts are snug before you lift.
4. Lift the egg with two or more people in gloves, holding the rear hinge and the front lower opening. The 2020 and 2021 manuals: hold the hinge near where it is fixed to the bands, not by its bottom.
5. Never roll or carry it up or down steps, and keep it on the ground: the manual says never on a table or counter.
6. Carry the empty stand by its two loops.

Kamado Joe gives no advice for taking it away (camping, tailgating). Ours: only when cold and the ash is out, inside parts packed separately, dome closed and strapped, egg upright.
