Burp the dome

Burp the dome before you open it

When the grill is above 175 °C (350 °F), a sudden rush of air can make the fire flare out of the dome: the manual calls it flashback, "a surge of white-hot heat". Burp it every time you lift the dome.

1. Stand to one side, gloves on, face and body clear of the vents.
2. Release the latch.
3. Lift the dome by the handle 5 to 8 cm (2 to 3 in).
4. Hold it there for about 5 seconds.
5. Open it fully.
6. Do not leave the grill unattended with the dome open.
