Deep clean inside

Take the inside out

The manual's deep clean (p. 15), with the order from an owner video on Kamado Joe's channel (Classic I).

1. Start cold: the day after a clean burn is easiest.
2. Lift out the grates, the deflectors and the Divide & Conquer rack.
3. Lift off the stainless ring, then the 6 walls one at a time, very carefully.
4. Lift out the fire grate, then the firebox base.
5. Slide out the ash drawer and lift out the ash funnel.

Clean and refit

Still the manual, with the band check from Kamado Joe's 2014 care video (Classic I).

1. Clear ash and debris from between the firebox and the body.
2. Brush the inside ceramic with a plastic-bristle brush.
3. Scoop or vacuum the bottom.
4. Wipe down the hinge and the outside.
5. Check the band nuts are tight.
6. Refit everything in the assembly order.
