Cook with wood: Wood Burner 2.0

Fit the Wood Burner 2.0 and pick the wood

The Wood Burner 2.0 manual. It fits every Roccbox, old or new (help centre).

  1. Close the cylinder valve, let the oven and burner cool, and twist the gas burner off.
  2. Twist the Wood Burner 2.0 onto the same bayonet fitting.
  3. Use kiln-dried hardwood kindling about 130 × 25 × 25 mm, ideally 16% moisture (10 to 20% is good).

Good: ash, alder, oak, beech, hickory, fruit woods. Never: pine, fir, cedar, redwood, spruce, fatwood, painted, stained or treated wood, green or sappy wood, old pallets, and (2016 book) charcoal or barbecue coals.

Light and feed the fire

The Wood Burner 2.0 manual's pictures.

  1. Lift the burner basket out with the hopper tool, put in 1 firelighter and 3 sticks, and light it. Never put fuel below the perforated part of the basket.
  2. Put the basket back and close the door. The smoke falls as the oven heats; wait for 300 °C on the dial before you cook.
  3. When the flame shrinks, feed 2 sticks at a time, and keep the door closed between feeds.

The help centre adds: do not be afraid to fill the hopper at the start.
