Clean the gas burner: insects and blockages

The manual: clean and inspect the gas burner every time you use it. Insect nests (wasps, bees, ants) in the burner or venturi "can be dangerous and must be cleaned out thoroughly". Gozney does not name spiders; the same check covers them.

1. Let the burner cool, close the cylinder valve and twist the burner off the oven.
2. Tip out any ash or debris.
3. Brush the burner head.
4. Blow it through with a can of compressed air, venturi included.
5. Go gently round the spark electrode: it bends easily (2016 book).
6. Wipe the outside with warm soapy water, refit it, and leak test if you undid a gas fitting.
