Winter care and re-curing

Cold weather and re-curing

Gozney says little about winter. The manual's lines: a weaker flame below 0 °C, and a curing fire after a long idle spell.

  1. Keep it covered with the rain cap on: see before storing it.
  2. Expect less power from the cylinder below 0 °C (32 °F); a bigger, fuller cylinder helps (the manual).
  3. Stand it somewhere sheltered and allow a longer heat-up.
  4. After a long spell without use, run a 30-minute curing fire, as at the first firing (the manual).
  5. After damp storage, bring it up to heat slowly. This is this guide's reading, not a Gozney instruction.
  6. Use propane in the cold: butane stops turning to gas near 0 °C. This is general gas knowledge; the UK/EU Gen 2 is propane only.
