Unbox and place it

Choose where it stands

Outdoors only for home use. Never in a building, garage, tent, vehicle, boat, or under a balcony or deck. Never cover the oven mouth while it is lit, and never cover the slots and holes in the base or the dock (no foil): the fumes contain carbon monoxide (the manual).

  1. Use it outdoors only, never under a roof unless a flue engineer has fitted a flue (covered areas).
  2. Stand it on a level, stable, non-combustible surface that can take 62 kg, with the oven floor at about elbow height, around 1 m.
  3. Keep it 1.5 m (5 ft) from buildings, structures, anything that burns and other gas cylinders.
  4. Keep at least 1 m in front of the mouth clear of anything that burns.
  5. Leave the dock clear: 5 cm free round its base, and keep flammable liquids 7.5 m (24 ft) away.
  6. Turn the mouth away from the wind. Wind breaks must stand more than 45 cm away; never cook in high winds.

Lift it into place

The manual and Gozney's "Setting up your oven" video. The oven arrives fully assembled.

  1. Take off the plastic clips round the box and lift out the regulator from the outer packing.
  2. Lift the oven out with four people, by its lifting straps, onto the stand or your surface. Never try to move it on your own.
  3. Cut off the lifting straps once it is in its final place: they are single use.
  4. From now on lift only by the hand holds round the base, never by the mouth or any opening in the dock.
  5. Take out the blue stone retention wedges and all packing inside the oven.
  6. Register it within 60 days.

Flue, stones, guard and grate

The manual's pictures (p. 21 and p. 26) and the setting-up video.

  1. Fit the flue collar onto the flue outlet on top of the oven.
  2. Fit the flue pipe into the collar, then the flue top on the pipe.
  3. Check the collar's rain guard sits about 3 mm above the oven top, as designed.
  4. Pull both stones forward with the stone adjustment tool until they sit tight together with no gap at the front.
  5. Centre the stones, then fit the burner guard on the left and the duct grate on the right.
  6. Keep the rain cap for when the oven is cold and not in use.
