Too much smoke from the wood fire

Wet or soft wood, or fresh wood added onto too few embers (the manual). Use kiln-dried hardwood at 10 to 20% moisture, and build a good bed of glowing embers, or add kindling, before adding more wood. Some smoke at the start is normal.
