Safety
Carbon monoxide, clearances and gas
- Outdoors only for home use, everywhere. Never in a building, garage, tent, vehicle, boat, under a balcony or deck, or as a heater (the manual; help centre). Under any roof only with a flue fitted by a certified flue engineer (covered areas).
- Carbon monoxide forms without enough air. It has no smell or colour. Never cover the mouth while lit, never cover the slots and holes in the base or the dock, and fit a CO alarm where local rules ask. Signs: tight forehead, headache, weakness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting; at worst collapse and death (the manual).
- Clearances: 1.5 m (5 ft) from structures, anything that burns, and other cylinders (October 2025 UK, US and German manuals; the January 2026 UK/EU manual allows 30 cm at the back, sides and above, 1 m in front, and 5 cm to non-combustible walls; this guide uses 1.5 m because it meets every edition); 7.5 m from flammable liquids; wind breaks over 45 cm away.
- Gas: the door never on with the gas flame lit; never gas and wood together; leak test with soapy water at first use, every cylinder change and after undoing any fitting, never with a flame. Light: dial in, 9 o'clock, then 7 o'clock and hold up to 30 s. Off: cylinder valve off first, wait 3 minutes, then turn the control dial to off.
- Flame out: If the flame goes out, turn off the cylinder valve and wait 5 minutes before you relight. The UK/EU manual says leave the control dial alone until then; the US manual says turn the dial off as well.
