Leak test with soapy water

The soapy-water leak test

When: before first use, whenever the cylinder is changed or refilled, and every time you undo and remake any gas fitting (the manual). Never look for a leak with a flame.

  1. Check the control dial is off, with no flames, sparks or smoking nearby.
  2. Open the cylinder valve.
  3. Brush or spray soapy water on the regulator-to-cylinder joint, the hose-to-regulator joint and the quick-connect at the gas inlet, and on any cracks along the hose.
  4. Watch for growing bubbles.
  5. Bubbles at the gas inlet: close the valve, remake the quick-connect and test again. If they come back, turn off the gas and do not use the oven.
  6. Bubbles at the cylinder valve: take the regulator off and test again with a different cylinder.
