Light it and turn it off
Light the gas burner
Outdoors only. Never in a building, garage, tent, vehicle, boat, or under a balcony or deck, and never as a heater. Never cover the mouth while it is lit, and keep 50 mm clear round the base of the dock for air: the fumes contain carbon monoxide (the manual).
- Check the wedges are out, the leak test has passed and the mouth is clear, then open the cylinder valve.
- Press the control dial in and turn it to 9 o'clock, until you hear clicking and the burner lights.
- Turn it on anticlockwise to 7 o'clock and hold it in for up to 30 seconds, so the flame failure device lets go.
- Push the dial firmly in and release it.
- Check the flame is yellow and rolls along the top of the oven.
- If it will not light or goes out: turn the dial off and the cylinder valve off, and wait 5 minutes before you try again.
Turn it off
The manual (pp. 42 and 43).
- Turn off the gas at the cylinder valve first, so the gas left in the burner and pipe burns away safely.
- Wait 3 minutes.
- Turn the control dial back to off, the dot at 12 o'clock.
- Now the regulator can come off. If you take the hose off too, put the cap back on the gas inlet.
- Leave the oven where it stands: it stays hot for a few hours. Never move it while it is warm.
If the flame goes out while you cook (wind, an empty cylinder): If the flame goes out, turn off the control dial and the cylinder valve, and wait 5 minutes before you relight (the manual).
