Unbox and place it
Choose where it stands
Outdoors only. Never in a building, garage, tent, vehicle, boat, or under a balcony or deck, and never as a heater. Never cover the mouth while it is lit, and keep 50 mm clear round the base of the dock for air: the fumes contain carbon monoxide (the manual).
- Use it outdoors only, never on or under anything combustible.
- Stand it on a level, stable surface that easily holds 26.5 kg, with the oven floor at about the bottom of your elbow, "usually around 120 cm" (the manual).
- Keep it 1.5 m (5 ft) from any structure, anything that burns and other gas cylinders.
- Keep at least 1 m in front of the mouth clear of combustible construction, and 30 cm at the back and sides.
- Leave 50 mm (2 in) clear round the base of the dock for air, and keep flammable liquids 7.5 m away.
- Turn the mouth away from the wind. Wind breaks must stand more than 45 cm away; never cook in strong winds.
What is in the box. The oven arrives assembled on its dock, with blue stone retention wedges and packing to take out. With it: the 20 mm stone (in place), the temperature display, the gas hose and regulator for your country, the burner guard, the flue outlet, the stone adjustment tool and the Torx screwdriver; US boxes also hold a matchstick holder (manual pp. 10 to 11; help centre). Gas only: there is no wood burner, door or chimney. The stand, booster, cover and mantel are extras.
Lift it out and set the stone
The manual (pp. 20 and 22) and the help centre. The Arc XL comes on a pallet in the UK and arrives assembled.
- Lift it out with two people, by the hand holds on the underside edges (the stand document: "from the rounded ends").
- Never lift it by the mouth.
- Take out the blue stone retention wedges and all packing inside the oven.
- If you see a large gap at the front of the stone, hook the stone adjustment tool over the back of the stone.
- Pull the stone gently forward until the gap is gone.
- Put the tool away, and register the oven within 60 days.
Flue outlet and burner guard
The manual's pictures (p. 21) and the help centre's assembly article. Both parts drop in: no tools and no fixings.
- Drop the flue outlet (the oval slotted grille) into the opening on the front of the dome top.
- Stand the burner guard on the stone along the left wall, in front of the burner, slots towards the middle.
- Keep the burner clear: never put anything over it or the guard.
- Then fit the batteries and connect the gas.
