Leak test with soapy water

The soapy-water leak test

When: before first use, whenever the cylinder is refilled or changed, and every time you disconnect and reconnect any gas fitting (the manual). Never look for a leak with a flame, and never light the burner while you test.

  1. Check the control dial is off, with no flames, sparks or smoking nearby.
  2. Open the cylinder valve.
  3. Brush or spray soapy water on the cylinder-to-regulator joint, the regulator-to-hose joint and the hose-to-oven quick-connect, and on any cracks along the hose.
  4. Watch for growing bubbles.
  5. Bubbles at the oven: close the valve, re-attach the quick-connect and test again. If they come back, turn off the gas and do not use the oven.
  6. Bubbles at the cylinder valve: take the regulator off and test again with a different cylinder.
