Unbox, set up and check the assembly

Place it: two people, the Nest first

The EGG arrives partly assembled. From the 2020 and 2026 manuals (picture-only) and BGE US's safety page.

  1. Build the Nest and stand it on firm, level, non-combustible ground. Never on a slope, never on a table without a Table Nest.
  2. Lock the 2 locking casters.
  3. Lift the EGG with two people, hands under the base.
  4. Never lift by the bands or the hinge: the manuals' pictures cross it out.
  5. Never lift by the handle.
  6. Leave 36 cm (14 in) at the sides and back and 91 cm (36 in) in front, on a non-combustible floor of 76 × 91 cm.

Fit the inside, dome and top

The order in the Large's 2026 band kit manual (117984) and 2020 pre-assembly manual; no XL manual was found.

  1. Set the fire box in the base with its notch lined up with the draft door.
  2. Lay the fire grate in the fire box, "BGE THIS SIDE UP" upwards.
  3. Stand the fire ring on the fire box.
  4. Lay the grid on the fire ring.
  5. Push the thermometer through the dome from outside and fit its clip inside.
  6. Sit the rEGGulator on the chimney.

If your EGG came with the bands loose, the Large's 2026 manual bolts the hinge brackets on first; see replace the band and hinge. Then register the EGG.

Check the dome sits true

From the 2020 manual's pictures, BGE UK and BGE Europe.

  1. Check the dome's front mark lines up with the base's, centred at the front (2020 manual).
  2. Close the dome and look all round for a gap at the gasket.
  3. Check every acorn nut is snug with a 7/16 in (11 mm) spanner. Do not overtighten (Ace, a BGE dealer).
  4. Check the 2 rear clamp bolts with a 1/2 in (13 mm) spanner: BGE Europe says tighten until they show a slight curve.
  5. Open the dome: it should stay open on its springs.
  6. Check the bolts again after the first weeks.
