Control the temperature
The draft door and the rEGGulator
Open is hotter, closed is cooler. From BGE US and BGE Europe.
- Set the draft door first: BGE Europe says it sets the upper limit.
- Fine-tune with the rEGGulator's disc (BGE Europe).
- Keep the two in step: "if your cap is open 1 in/2.5 cm your door should be too" (BGE US).
- Make small changes and wait until the temperature has stopped moving (BGE US).
- To bring it down, close both a little at a time. Ceramic holds heat, so creep up rather than overshoot.
Vent settings by temperature
BGE Europe's 2026 cheat sheet, drawn for the rEGGulator (read from pictures, so approximate):
- 100 °C: draft door about a quarter open, rEGGulator nearly closed.
- 150 °C: door about a third, rEGGulator slightly open.
- 200 °C: door about half, rEGGulator more open.
- 350 °C: both fully open.
BGE US rates the EGG from 93 to 399 °C (200 to 750 °F). BGE Europe advises keeping cooking below 300 °C to spare the felt and hinge; see the limits.
